The Association for Bahá’í Women – Scotland encourages all members of the community to join in a celebration of International Women’s Day on Thursday, 8th March, 2007. We have been anticipating this occasion as an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary significance of the Bahá’í Writings regarding the role women are destined to play in the future.
Therefore, on International Women’s Day, the ABW requests that all Bahá’ís in Scotland, whether in large, established communities, or in smaller groups and isolated localities, invite their friends to:
  • gather to study the compilation by the World Centre on women (extracts are available on equality; education and development of womankind as mothers; esteemed position of women within family life and wider society; the crucial role of women in the larger world; fostering the development of womankind)
  • organize a meeting through your local council. They often have resources available and can offer venues, crèches, lunch, advertising of the event, all free of charge. You could offer a presentation on the rôle of women in the new world order (15min in length) or status of women in different religions from a talk given by Sepideh Taheri
  • or make your own programme to suit your own needs. A coffee morning or tranquillity zone on the theme of women, perhaps to address these issues through the Writings, so that they may further discover just how much the status and capability of women is going to determine the future stability and happiness of the entire world.
This day is an important, internationally recognized, celebration of womankind. We must all make redoubled and significant strides each and every day in establishing the groundbreaking mission of women to establish world peace. In the Bahá’í Writings the admonition is repeated over and over again: peace becomes possible only if women are treated equally with men; if they are educated and develop their innate abilities; if they are the capable educators of children; and if they are heard and appreciated in the world arena.

We encourage you to address these issues through the Writings, so that together you may further discover just how much the status and capability of women is going to determine the future stability and happiness of the entire world.
Another suggestion is to a arrange a meeting to celebrate Mother’s Day in March, using quotes about the spiritual status of women and the role of mothers.

If you would like a representative of the ABW to discuss your planning for International Women’s Day or for a representative of the ABW to participate in the presentation of these important precepts of the Faith in your group, please contact us for assistance.
